In Stage 1 of my film and animation workflow, I leverage Datasmith to bring designs to life in dynamic scenes within Unreal Engine, a step that’s foundational in both my still visuals and animation processes. A key advantage here is the efficient transfer of static camera positions, which significantly speeds up the initial scene preparation. By accurately capturing these predetermined viewpoints from your designs, I can optimize the setup phase, ensuring a swift and precise alignment with the intended cinematic vision. This critical early step not only accelerates our progress but also sets a solid groundwork for the detailed production phases that follow, smoothly integrating design intent with cinematic execution.
Stage 1: Datasmith
In stages 2 and 3 of my workflow, I refine composition, colours, and story, building on the scene’s theme, colour palette, and camera movement ideas provided. Where details on narrative, camera movements, or emotional depth are missing, I offer my expertise. I suggest narrative enhancements, recommend camera paths to enrich the scene, and adjust emotional tones, ensuring the final piece resonates deeply. This stage is about transforming architectural visions into stories that captivate, blending design and cinematic storytelling into a seamless narrative.
Stage 2 & 3: Composition, colours and story.
In the final stages of my workflow—post-production, draft footage review, and the delivery of the final rendered footage—I employ a meticulous approach to ensure cinematic excellence. I use the ACES workflow and export sequences from Unreal Engine with 16-bit colour technology, incorporating techniques akin to those used in Hollywood. My tool of choice for this critical colour grading and enhancement phase is DaVinci Resolve Studio, which allows me to achieve that distinct movie look through professional motion picture post-production colour grading.
Additionally, this phase is where I add music, sound effects, and composited footage to enhance photorealism and emotional impact. Following this, I produce a draft in either 720p or 1080p resolution, inviting comments and adjustments. This collaborative step ensures that the final piece not only meets but exceeds expectations. Finally, after meticulous refinement, the finished product is rendered, encapsulating your vision with unparalleled clarity and impact.
Stage 4, 5 and 6: Post production, draft footage for comments and adjustments and final footage.
